Antique Hepplewhite Farmhouse Table, Circa 1800-1820

IMG_4461

Offering a gorgeous antique New England Hepplewhite drop-leaf farmhouse table with wood peg joinery. Circa 1800-1820. The farmhouse table originated from the Deerfield area or surrounding valley in Western Massachusetts. It’s very solidly made, with nice period handcrafted details in the construction. The Hepplewhite farmhouse table is made of pine. Both leaves are held by a pivoted cutout on two sides, so one leaf can be dropped and one left up. Four adults can be seated at this table and it’s exceptionally sturdy for everyday use, given its age. The history is present in a wonderful worn patina to the surfaces and joinery. There are plenty of scratches and a very old dark spot left behind from a candle holder. It has a lovely simple rustic feel.

The simplicity of an antique country Hepplewhite table lends itself well to both traditional settings and more contemporary spaces alike. Perfect for a period home, or modern city loft with limited dining space. The drop leaf compact style makes it perfect for a sideboard table too. Click here for more details.

Large Vintage 1920s Cast Iron & Wood Drafting Table

P1020126

Offering a stunning antique maple and cast iron drafting table made by Hamilton Manufacturing Co. The cast iron knobs, legs and hardware are fantastic. The base is made of black painted maple and the extra large table surface is made of pine with oak trim on both ends. There’s a scarce maple foot rest attached to the cast iron legs, which is removable. Excellent patina and desirable wear to the wood surfaces, which show its age and character. Everything is completely functional and very sturdy. The drafting table has a tilt function, and is also height adjustable. It has been carefully cleaned and waxed, while leaving all its original character and wear. The table surface has wear at four corners of the surface due to years of drafting with a compass point, which has left shallow pin point indentations, but a glass can easily rest on the concentrated spots. For drafting use, it would be best to use a drafting mat on the drawing surface, and its about one of the largest dimensions you can find for a drafting table.

The piece is perfectly suited as a desk, dining table, kitchen island/table, or a cocktail table in a commercial setting. Excellent versatility. The ability to adjust the height makes the table perfect for use with chairs or stools. The industrial design lends itself well to plenty of uses in various decor environments. Whether it be a compact NYC loft or a home office, this table will provide limitless options, as a show piece in whichever room you choose.

Vintage Telephones

P1050389

Vintage telephones add so much charm and elegance to a room or office. Western Electric made the finest telephones in the world, with all metal bases and time tested bakelite handles. Their telephone technology was above and beyond the competition. A 1930s model 202 with an E1 handset like the one above was the pinnacle of telephone design during the Deco era. There’s nothing like dialing a call on a clickity clack sounding refurbished rotary dial, as it makes every call feel important. The separate ringer box which accompanied this model had beautifully cast brass bells, making a beautiful sound, much like the sound one would hear while watching a Hollywood film of the 1930s with a telephone in the scene.

In order to keep elegant old telephones alive and working, Hartong International fully refurbishes each model with an obsessive attention to the fine details. The 1930s Western Electric Model 202 displayed above is offered for sale in our store. Like all the vintage and antique telephones we carry, they have been fully refurbished with stunning glossy paint, new or inspected NOS wiring and updated networks to work on all traditional telephone lines. Many of our telephones can be used on cable internet based telephone services with a simple adapter. The example pictured has a beautiful Italian leather base pad, which keeps your furniture free of scratches and allows the telephone to stay in place when dialing a call.

Portrait of Young Lady, Early 20th Century

Image
Offering an exceptionally beautiful early 20th century portrait of a seated young lady in traditional 19th century Dutch dress. The oil painting is rather large at 38″ x 38.25″ framed. Unframed it measures approximately 31″ x 31″. The signature is unknown, with the initials “MW” visible. The painter was very skilled, with excellent knowledge of composition, shadow, colour and proportion. The subject is painted with a fairly tight style, with looser brush strokes in the background.
The painting is in excellent antique condition, with a couple of very small minor scratches to the upper left of her head. There is a small hole in the middle of the orange necklace, which is approximately .25″ in diameter and only noticeable on close inspection. The overall paint surface is free of any major cracks, with only minor craquelure on the lefthand side in the white painted sleeve. A very old repair is present on the rear righthand side upper corner, with a small patch done properly. Only on very close inspection can you see a slight inconsistency of the paint texture and colour around the old repair. As for the frame, there is plaster loss at the corners and some minor scratches. Overall excellent antique condition.
