Four Handmade Early 19th Century Hitchcock Chairs

Offering a set of four handmade Hitchcock chairs. Circa 1820-1840. They have a nice patina, with an old shellac finish present. The chairs recently received a coat of very fine museum quality English wax. All the joints are very stable and the chairs feel very solid. There are nice details of a skilled craftsman, with carving marks and nicely turned legs.

Most Hitchcock chairs are painted black, but these happened to be finished Yellow Pine & hardwood. Under one of the chairs, there is very faint painted lettering, showing to whom the chairs were made. I haven’t been able to make out the entire name. The chairs came from a farmhouse in Western Massachusetts and were likely made locally, with some parts potentially from the Hitchcock Co.  In 1818, the Hitchcock company started in the business of selling chair parts.

1940’s Classic Western Electric 300 Series Telephone -Excellent Working Order

Offering an original 1940’s Western Electric Telephone. It’s in very fine condition, with very few scratches to the handle or bakelite telephone base. The 1950’s cord going to the receiver has a few cracks in the wire covering. This does not affect the interior cord and the receiver works perfectly. Both the speaker and microphone are crisp and clear. The rotary dial is smooth and made of metal. The ringer is fantastic and reminds me of so many brilliant 1940’s movies.

I’m personally amazed at how nice the shine is and how little wear is present. The original four-prong plug is attached and can be plugged into the wall outlet with an $8.00 adapter from an electronics store. It could also be wired right into the wall outlet.

I’ve personally tested the phone by attaching the wires in the plug, to a phone outlet. All the functions work perfectly. Early telephones were meant to last forever and almost never break.

Antique Early American Armchair Upholstered in Hessian Cloth

SOLD

Offering a lovely early 20th century armchair in an earlier style. It has been upholstered in natural Hessian Cloth. The chair frame is very solid and displays desirable age and wear to the wood. The finish is original, with a recent fine English wax coating added. There is a very small piece of missing wood on the bottom of the left front leg, which is to be expected of an antique chair. I’m not 100% which type of wood the chair was constructed from. It’s certainly very hard!

The chair has very simple lines and a natural look, which make it versatile. It’s very wide and comfortable. The chair would go brilliantly next to the rustic 1840’s Empire Worktable, which I also have listed.

This item is offered for local collection. It’s also offered for shipment by UPS or freight service. It can be delivered throughout New England and the New York City area.

Please be in contact for shipping and handling charges, which will obviously vary by delivery method.

1916 Victor Victrola VV-X Phonograph

Victrola VV-X Phonograph
Dated 1916
Full Serial # VV-X- 267294J
COMPLETELY ORIGINAL!
VERY NICE OAK CASE
ALMOST FLAWLESS!

A completely original Victor Victrola in very fine condition.  It’s been looked at carefully, and the oak finish has never been tampered with or restored.  It has been thoroughly cleaned and polished.  There are no signs of any varnish or shellac.  The oak finished models originally came with a waxed finish.  The doors and hinged top open and close, as they should.  All the hinges and knobs are in fine condition, with the original patina.  The nickel-plated interior brightwork is all in great order and received a light cleaning.  Mechanically, the Victrola is also in excellent working order, with a loud and crisp soundbox.  The spring holds an incredible amount of energy, as it will play many records on one full winding.  There is a good supply of needles in the hopper, off to the left rear side.
The original sticker is present on the rear, with all the various patents visible.  The interior number plate and Victrola logo are in excellent condition.  It’s incredible how fine this machine is, considering it’s age.  It came from an estate and likely did not move, from the very day it was delivered.
There are only a few very small dings on the wood cabinet and a few very small scratches on the top lid.  The felt turntable pad is completely original and does show signs of age and wear.  The felt can easily be replaced with an identical new one, for a very low cost.  I haven’t replaced it, as I want to offer this Victrola in completely original condition.
I have never seen a Victrola or other phonograph in ORIGINAL CONDITION, this finely preserved.  It’s ready to entertain for another 95 years, with proper care.  Bring it home, wind it up and enjoy the collection of records, which come with it.  Many of the discs are dated 1906 and are single-sided.  There are a few Harry Lauder records included.  On request, I can provide a full list of recordings, which go with this Victrola VV-X.  Additional photos available.

Local collection/pick up would be most desired.  The buyer can arrange freight shipping at buyers expense, with no seller handling provided.  Although, I can assist with arranging a delivery to a freight company or pick up.  For a fee, the Victrola can be delivered throughout New England, Boston and the New York City area.

Empire Work Table Made In New England | Circa 1840s

19TH CENTURY EMPIRE WORK TABLE
MADE IN NEW ENGLAND
Circa 1840s
Lovely turned legs in a spooled style
Excellent Dovetailing!
Exceptional Patina!

A fantastic example of country American Empire.  It’s all original, with some of the green paint still visible, especially around the drawer.  The entire piece has received a coat of wax to bring out the depth of the original finish.  The base and legs appear to have once been painted in a period green, which must have been semi-removed long ago.  It was an estate find from a farmhouse, with many items having been untouched for a very longtime.  The wear and patina are so attractive and give testament to the age of this piece.
In very solid condition, with nicely working hinges and smooth gliding runners.  The table is mainly made of mahogany, with drawer bottom, back and sides of pine.  All dovetails are strong, within the drawer.
Local pickup would be desired.  Delivery can be arranged throughout New England, Boston and New York City.

GE Electric Oscillating Fan | Patented 1911

ANTIQUE GE ELECTRIC FAN
EXCELLENT BRASS FITTINGS AND BLADE
REFURBISHED
Patent: Nov. 1911
Type: AOU Form: AB
New period style wiring and power cord
Cleaned/oiled motor and bearings
Wick in fine condition and has been oiled
Oscillation gearbox opened and new grease added
A VERY NICE PERIOD FAN IN BRILLIANT WORKING ORDER

A fantastic antique GE fan!  It has a very smooth motor and hums along very nicely.  The oscillation gearbox works as it should.  All the brass fittings are bright and the GE badge is without dings.  There is one very small ding at the top corner of one fan blade.  Otherwise, the fan blades are unmarked, but have plenty of scratches, which were revealed when an older repaint was removed.  The fan blades could be buffed to a “like new” condition, but I believe in leaving a bit of wear on antique and vintage items.  As you can see the cast iron parts have some surface imperfections, there is a very tiny paint chip on the gearbox corner and the paint has a few scratches here & there. The three speed switch works perfectly, with strong connections.  The combination of the cast iron parts painted black, with bright brass and a red twist fabric cord, are a very fetching combination.
Definitely a must have for anyone interested in antique fan technology or a very nice decorator piece.
The fan is very heavy, due to its time tested solid construction.  It weighs nearly 20 lbs.  Packaged it would ship at around 22 lbs.
Offered at $275.- SOLD

The black paint, with a touch of gold coloured wiring, makes this fan versatile in any home or office decor.

Circa 1850s Amish Primitive Rocking Chair

Primitive Amish Rocking Chair
Circa 1850s
Original stain/colouring
Solid Peg Construction
Hand Carved Pine

Offering a Primitive Amish rocking chair from the mid-19th century.  Completely hand made with many pieces carved with simple tools.  It’s in very solid condition.  Being a Primitive, it does rock slightly to the left and is pleasant to sit in.  The arms happen to be just the right height and the high back is slightly bowed, making it very comfortable.  There is plenty of original wear in the right places.
It was bought from an estate in Indiana.  Most of the farmhouse furnishings were of the same period, with many fine Amish items.  At some point, someone had applied a lacquer over the original finish, in a well done manner.  It does look very fresh, yet has a lovely worn patina.  I’m very fond of the colouring and wear on the arms.
Offered at $350.- SOLD
