A VERY NICE PERIOD FAN IN BRILLIANT WORKING ORDER

A fantastic antique GE fan!  It has a very smooth motor and hums along very nicely.  The oscillation gearbox works as it should.  All the brass fittings are bright and the GE badge is without dings.  There is one very small ding at the top corner of one fan blade.  Otherwise, the fan blades are unmarked, but have plenty of scratches, which were revealed when an older repaint was removed.  The fan blades could be buffed to a “like new” condition, but I believe in leaving a bit of wear on antique and vintage items.  As you can see the cast iron parts have some surface imperfections, there is a very tiny paint chip on the gearbox corner and the paint has a few scratches here & there. The three speed switch works perfectly, with strong connections.  The combination of the cast iron parts painted black, with bright brass and a red twist fabric cord, are a very fetching combination.
Definitely a must have for anyone interested in antique fan technology or a very nice decorator piece.
The fan is very heavy, due to its time tested solid construction.  It weighs nearly 20 lbs.  Packaged it would ship at around 22 lbs.

18th Century Bavarian Pine Armoire

18th Century Bavarian Armoire/Cabinet
Hand constructed in pine
Understated floral motif on door and drawer
5’tall x 37 1/2″wide x 20″deep
The piece was bought in Munich during the 1970s and shipped to the States.  There is a painted detail at the top, showing a marriage date of 1876 and the first letters of the given names of the couple.  The piece is much older than the wedding gift date.  There is a lock plate of the door, in the form of a bird, which dates the armoire/cabinet to the late 18th century.  There is no longer a key available and the door can be kept closed, with a later edition hand carved latch.
Inside, there is shelving and two small hidden drawers at the very top.  The bottom drawer slides freely and deep.
The piece is very solid given it’s age. Much of the peg construction is intact and still holding the piece together.  There were some nails added in the 19th or early 20th century in various discrete places, to add additional support.
There are a few repairs, which are blended in rather nicely around the hinges to the door and at the bottom of the drawer.  Two supports, which act as feet, had been added to the bottom and are hidden by the exterior panels.  They appear to be in a metric size and were probably added before it was imported in the 1970s.
Overall, it’s a very charming rustic piece, with very nice original touches.  The painted areas and character are very understated, which make it a perfect addition to any decor.  I could see it in a country home or equally fitting to a city loft.

This is a fantastic Diehl oscillating fan!  It has been completely gone over, with new period style wiring, a thorough cleaning, paint and an oiled motor.  Both the wiring to the motor and the power cord have been replaced.  Definitely an exceptional example of a solid vintage fan.  It runs smoothly and is very quiet.  The three speed switch works just as it should.
The black paint, with a touch of gold coloured wiring, makes this fan versatile in any home or office decor.
Beginning in the late 19th century, Diehl was started by a German motor expert.  Using state of the art engineering, Diehl was known for high end products.

Offering a Primitive Amish rocking chair from the mid-19th century.  Completely hand made with many pieces carved with simple tools.  It’s in very solid condition.  Being a Primitive, it does rock slightly to the left and is pleasant to sit in.  The arms happen to be just the right height and the high back is slightly bowed, making it very comfortable.  There is plenty of original wear in the right places.
It was bought from an estate in Indiana.  Most of the farmhouse furnishings were of the same period, with many fine Amish items.  At some point, someone had applied a lacquer over the original finish, in a well done manner.  It does look very fresh, yet has a lovely worn patina.  I’m very fond of the colouring and wear on the arms.

Pansies in oil on canvas

A lovely small oil painting created in Massachusetts and framed by, Meekins, Packard & Wheat, Inc., of Springfield, MA.  The backing paper shows the label of the long gone department store, which was once very prominent in Western Massachusetts.  The frame itself is rather delicate and has some corner damage. This happens to be common with old gilded plaster frames.

The details and composition are charming and the artist was certainly trained.  The painting certainly shows a great deal of Realism in technique.  No signature is present, so the artist is unknown.

YOUNG LADY WITH DOG

Signed and Dated 1938

A pre-WWII portrait of a lady seated in period clothing with a small dog.  The painting is signed, but the name of the artist is hard to read.  The painter obviously had formal training, as the proportions and composition are well thought out.  It appears to have been created over several sittings, with many layers of paint present.  It’s a vibrant painting in both colour and subject. The plaster copper leaf frame is complimentary to several details within the painting.  The frame has a few small repairs to the plaster, which are blended in rather well and only noticeable with a close inspection. The frame measures 24″x31″.

I was told it was painted in Massachusetts.  The subject in the painting is holding a cigarette, but be assured the painting itself has no offensive smells.

Guy De Neyrac Watercolour of Notre Dame

Notre Dame, Paris, circa 1930

The painting is of Notre Dame Cathedral, with a morning street scene in the foreground.  It appears to be painted just after a morning rain, as the clouds began to disperse, with a glimpse of sunlight. The artist focused his attention to the reflectiveness of wet pavement, using broad washes and loose pen outlining of the architectural elements.  It’s a restful scene of a usually busy avenue and Notre Dame.  There are a few loosely painted cars and a couple horsemen at the controls of a carriage.  The playful pen outlining is a trademark of Neyrac’s style. 

The condition of the watercolour is excellent.  The title of the painting is seen on the bottom left and is signed prominently on the bottom right.  The watercolour is tastefully framed in a high quality limed wood frame, linen border and anti-glare glass.  The frame, glass and backing appear to be more recent than the 1930s.  The dimensions of the frame are approximately 25″x30.5″.

His Master’s Voice 101 Gramophone

This portable gramophone manufactured in England, is a rare front-crank early HMV101 model. It dates to 1925 and has been lovingly cared for all these years.  For it’s age, it shows only minimal wear and works perfectly. It has been throughly cleaned and the motor/gearing has been serviced. The original interior mahogany wood, felted turntable pad and nickel-plated fittings are all in fantastic original condition. Everything works as it should.

The exterior Rexine leather cloth covering is in great condition, considering it’s an 86 year old gramophone. There are the odd scuffs, scratches and bubbles.  The fabric has been treated with a nice wax to condition and preserve the black material. The carrying handle was replaced with an appropriate reproduction leather one, as the old one’s leather had perished. All the exterior nickel-plated fittings were taken off and polished. All the accessories are present.  The soundbox arm has what would appear to be a dent, but after close inspection, it was manufactured with a flat spot near the rear in order to clear the top cover when closed.

It’s a remarkable piece of early 20th century entertainment history, which includes four 78 records to enjoy.  Again this is a rare HMV 101 model, with the windup crank located on the front.  Shortly after this gramophone was introduced, the hand crank was relocated to the side and the hoppers(needle holders) were also moved to the outside corner of the case.

A truly functional collectable, ready to be taken on a summer picnic or used throughout the house.  Below you will find a video of the gramophone in action and many photographs.

Just added a set of nine additional 78 records, held in a Radio Corporation of America case, made of Rexine leather cloth and cardboard. Dated 1918. There are two Harry James records, one Perry Como, one Les Brown, one Alvino Rey, two Glen Miller, one Benny Goodman and a combo of Pinetop Smith & Artie Matthews.

MasterCraft Cast Iron and Chrome Electric Desk Fan

MasterCraft desk fan manufactured in 1947. It’s a truly well-built piece of vintage American manufacturing. Built just after World War II, it’s 8″ fan blade runs like an airplane propeller.

It runs very smoothly and fast. The motor and bearings have been cleaned, then lubricated. The fan also has been rewired, with a new power cord. There is one speed controlled by an on/off switch. This retro desk fan creates a massive amount of airflow for a unit measuring 10.5″ in height. The Chrome fittings and fan blade have been cleaned/ polished. The steel and cast iron parts received a fresh coat of paint.

This fan was built to last forever and it just received it’s 64 year service. It’s ready to give that retro look and quality to your office or home. It does have an oscillating mechanism at the rear, which does not work. I believe the gearing has worn away from years of use. It doesn’t affect the overall purpose or look of this brilliant desk fan. This is a solid metal original and after running for awhile the motor housing will become hot to the touch. This is normal, as there is no plastic on this fan.

Ballerina Lithograph by Jean Jansem

Offering a Jean Jansem lithograph of a seated Ballerina.  The limited edition print is number 36 of 120 and signed Jansem on the right hand bottom in pencil.  It’s a lovely composition in monochromatic colours. Circa 1970-1981

The condition of the print is, Fine.  It’s matted in a tasteful silvered frame, which measures approximately 23 1/2 x 27 1/2 inches.  The backing is untampered and displays the sticker of the Associated American Artists, which closed in 1981.  The New York AAA was run by Reeves Lewenthal.  Prints brought to market by the now defunct gallery, have become very desirable to art collectors, with prices steadily inclining.
